We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Xenia R. Gonzalez. She was born in Ojinaga, Chihuahua and later became a lifelong resident of El Paso. Xenia was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and loved one. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Lorenzo “Blackie” Gonzalez, daughter, Helga Gonzalez Marin and son-in-law, Tim Johnson.
Xenia is survived by her children Lily Gonzalez (Tim), Tanie Van Valen and her husband John with their daughter Karen, and Franz Albert Gonzalez and his wife Angie with their daughters, Amanda, Jazmin and Erin, her granddaughter, Jeniva Stoner and husband, Brandon, and her siblings, Jose “Tato” Rodriguez and Margarita Santisbon. Xenia loved her granddaughters dearly and had a profound influence on their care and upbringing.
Xenia was a devoted wife to the love of her life of over 50 years. She and Blackie created a family filled with love, hard work and laughter. Their home was a welcoming and comforting place for family and friends to gather, create loving memories and savor Xenia’s cooking.
Xenia and Blackie founded the End of the Trail stables which they managed for over thirty years. We are profoundly grateful to cherished friends and tenants at their stables for their love and support over the years, especially after our father’s passing which can never be repaid.
Xenia was a pillar of strength, grace and courage. She showed us how to embrace life as it came and would say “Todo se arregla”. She never hesitated to give a helping hand, an encouraging word, a ‘gentle nudge’ or heartfelt blessing. Even though our hearts will be forever broken, the legacy that she leaves behind is her unconditional love, tireless devotion and commitment to family and loved ones, and her enduring faith.
