Winnifred Jeanette Peterson

Winnie Peterson was called home to our Lord  February 27, 2023 at her home at the age of 91.

Winnifred Jeanette (Garbe) Peterson born February 02, 1932, the daughter of Fred and Hazel (Sorley) Garbe of Montevideo, Minnesota.

Winnie grew up on her family farm outside of Montevideo, Minnesota, and attended Montevideo High School. She was united in marriage with James (Jack) Peterson on August 24, 1949 until his passing in 1992.  Jack was in the Army for 25 years, so they lived in many places including Missouri, New York, Germany and El Paso, Texas where they retired.

Aside from being a homemaker she worked for El Paso Public Schools. While in her 40's she attended El Paso Community College and graduated with an Associate's degree in Information Processing. That same year she started working at the Community College in the Information Processing computer lab until her retirement in 1997.  Shortly after her retirement, she moved to Willmar Minnesota, to be near her sisters Patsy and Dorothy, as well as other family still residing in the area. In 1997 she moved back to El Paso, Texas, where she resided until her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jack, and two sisters Patsy Kalstrom and Dorothy Ost.

She is survived by her children: Michael (Valerie) of Whidby Island, Washington, Craig (Gerri ) of El Paso, Texas, Toni (Wayne) Cremer of Clarksville, Tennessee, her sister Janice Joslyn of Casper, Wyoming.  She was also blessed with 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be at 12:00 PM, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 PM, on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass. Committal Service will follow at 2:30 PM, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
