Winifred E. Houser, age 100, of El Paso, Texas, passed away peacefully July 21, 2007. She touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed by all. Winifred Houser, a lifelong resident of El Paso, graduated from El Paso High and earned her BA and MA degrees from UTEP. She retired from El Paso ISD after a 43-year career as an elementary school teacher and principal. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of El Paso. She served as president of Kappa Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. She was also a member of: the Ysleta Chapter No. 991 Order of the Eastern Star; the Daughters of the Republic of Texas; Daughters of the American Revolution; and the El Paso Retired Teachers Association. Winifred is survived by her daughter Helen Popovich and husband Donald MacConnel; son Edward Houser and wife Patricia; and son George Houser and wife Alicia Mayes. She is also survived by five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Winifred’s memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 30, at the First Baptist Church of El Paso, 805 Montana Ave. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Delta Kappa Gamma.
