Deacon Willie E. Green, 85, was called home to God on February 21, 2018.
Deacon Green enlisted in the US Army in 1952, and he proudly served until he retired in October 1978 as a 1st Sergeant. After retiring from the Army, Deacon Green obtained an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice in 1981 from El Paso Community College. After attaining his degree, he began his second career with the Texas Youth Commission where he worked until he retired in 1992.
Deacon Green truly loved his church family and church work at Friendship Baptist Church. He was ordained on June 18, 1995, and he served faithfully as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Sunday School Superintendent, and Chairman of the Finance Committee.
Deacon Green was preceded in death by his parents Henry and Mary Small and his brother Willie Small. He will be missed by his children Sonja, Kelvin (Ese), Vickie Coleman (Larry Sr.), Valerie, and Sheryl; his grandchildren Michael, Otes, Samantha, Larry II, Laurin, and Lance; his eight great grandchildren; his dear cousin Linda Miller; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
Visitation will be Wednesday, February 28 from 6-9 pm at Sunset Funeral Homes-East, 750 N. Carolina Drive with a Prayer Service at 7 pm. His Home Going Service will be held Thursday, March 1 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at 10:45 am followed by the Committal Service at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
