Wayne Cheek, 92, died at his home in El Paso on December 19, 2007. He was born in Cleveland, Oklahoma, and married Rosalyn Rinehart in 1937. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and moved to El Paso in 1946. Even though the Depression had mad it impossible for him to get a college education, he rose as an executive in the El Paso Natural Gas Company and eventually headed the Accounting Department. He retired in 1977 after 30 years with the company. Rosalyn died at their home in Colorado in 1988, and in 1992 he returned to El Paso and married Frieda Richter, also an EPNG retiree. She died in February 2007. He was never socially active, but he was kind, generous, fair and unconditionally honest, an unfailing moral compass to his family and friends. He is survived by his son and daughter –in-law, Larry and Patty Cheek, of Seattle. A Memorial Service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 6520 Loma de Cristo.
