Walter Arthur Raymond, a veteran of World War II, was born August 10, 1918 and passed away December 14, 2012. He grew up and completed his early schooling in St. Petersburg, Florida. As a teenager he took on the responsibility of helping support his family, first working for a local hardware store and later leaving home to work for the Civilian Conservation Corps. "Ray," as everyone called him, has a long military career, first with the Coast Guard and later 22 years with the Army. He was a Warrant Officer in Germany after the war during which time he met and married Ellie Daubach, his wife for 60 years. Ellie and Ray spent most of those years in El Paso. After retiring from the military he received his bachelors degree from UTEP and went to work for the U.S. Customs. He enjoyed a long retirement and loved to read and travel. Every week he would go to the library with a stack of books and return home with a new stack. He and Ellie enjoyed taking car trips around the country. When asked why he and Ellie didn't take a cruise he would reply that he had enough cruising in his life (with the Coast Guard). He was preceded in death by his parents Robert Henry Raymond and Velva Parks and also by his four brother and one sister. He is survived by his wife, Ellie, Ellie's sister Adi Daubach, another sister in law, and a daughter by a previous marriage.
