Walter Edward Joseph Hunter

Walter E. Hunter, 66, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away on November 29, 2009, Walter was born and raised in New York, New York. He enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 17. A Veteran of the Viet Nam war, he served his country proudly for over 30 years, retiring as Chief Warrant Officer III. Upon retirement, he settled in El Paso, TX, with his wife and two children. Walter, a worker at heart, pursued his dream of a career in law enforcement. He graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and began working for the El Paso County Sheriffs Department. In 1996 he found his calling with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security as a U. S. Customs and Border Protection Officer, where he remained until his final days. Although a hard worker, he was an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the Gold Wing Motor Cycle Club. Walter was known and admired for his strong presence, his love for his family, and his great sense of humor. Walter is preceded in death by his parents Jesse and Olive Hunter. He is survived by his wife Janice, his son Jesse, his daughter Wendy and two grandsons Jasiah and Tyson, as well as many friends. Visitation will be held from 4 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, December 3, 2009 with a Vigil beginning at 6 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-East located at 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral Mass will be Friday, December 4, 2009 at 11:30 am at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church. He will be laid to rest at Fort Bliss National Cemetery at 1 pm with Full Honors. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the American Cancer Society and The American Diabetes Association. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
