Vernell Griffin

Vernell “Vern” Griffin passed way on December 3rd 2008. She was born in Fredericksburg, Texas on December 9, 1924. She graduated from SWTC in San Marcos. Vern served as Asst. Home Demonstration Agent of Bexar County. She also taught school in Fredericksburg, San Antonio, Eagle Pass and Rockville, Maryland. On April 23, 1949, she married her husband F. Mack Griffin of Wolfe City, Texas. She is survived by her brother, F.A. Stahl and his wife Mary in Mineral Wells, brother-in-law Lynne Griffin and wife Ann of Nashville, son Mark and wife Sally; their children Erica and Daniel from Seattle, daughter Carol and husband Bruce and also granddaughter Christy in El Paso. She is preceded in death by her husband Mack, son John Steven, sister Josephine and her husband Bill Stover. Vern has served as Deacon and Elder of First Presbyterian Church. She was an original member of the Board of Directors of the Christian Pre-School of First Presbyterian. She participated and enjoyed being in several bible study groups. Former member of Civic groups in El Paso and in Maryland. She enjoyed homemaking, bridge, travel, and reading. She will be most remembered as a loving and caring wife, mother and friend. Memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1340 Murchison, on Monday, December 8 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Vern requested no flowers; instead donations be made to your charity of choice or to the church in her honor. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
