Velia Rivero Provencio, 84, born March 1, 1927 in El Paso TX. Velia was called by our Lord the morning of January 5th, 2012. Velia had a long and happy marriage of 63 years to Jesus (JR) Provencio. They met while both students at The Texas School of Mines. She was the only sister of Eduardo Rivero. She was the proud mother of Velia Gurrola, Sylvia Provencio, Marta Zarrella, Roberto Provencio, Laura Pinard, and Victoria Lugo. Sadly, Laura passed away June 19th, 2010. Velia was also the caring grandmother to 14 grandchildren. Velia was a leader throughout her life. A graduate of Bowie High School; class of 1944. While at Bowie she was the first female student body-President. She was also in the Junior ROTC. Velia attended the Texas School of Mines (now UTEP) and obtained a degree in education. Velia served as an interpreter for the US Federal Courts and a Spanish Instructor for the US Border Patrol. Velia also found much delight in teaching Spanish at Lorretto Academy. She was a very accomplished teacher. Velia found the most happiness in her life being a wife and mother. She will be missed by all that were fortunate and blessed enough to know her and loved her. Visitation: 5:00-8:00pm, Monday, January 9, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a Vigil at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass: 10:00am, Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at St. Patrick’s Cathedral.
