MAJ Thomas Alexander Cooper (Ret), 84, passed away on Monday, December 11, 2017. Born in New Castle, Alabama on June 3, 1933, he is preceded in death by his parents Dezzie Townsend, Harry Boglin, Willie O. Cooper, and A.Z. Cooper, and his sister Mary Jo Brooks. Thomas was a U.S. Army veteran having served his country for 20 years including active duty service in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was also a civil servant for the U.S. Department of Defense for 30 years. He was an avid baseball and football fan and always rooted for the Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys. Thomas was a generous man; every year he donated food to local organizations and school supplies to Hart Elementary School.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bessye Cooper, his brother Ross Boglin, his children Glen (Pamela) Howard, Vaquero "Kerry" Cooper, Keith (Tara) Cooper, Karen Cooper Linen, and Karl (Rebecca) Cooper, his 13 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and his nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 9:00pm with The El Paso-Las Cruces Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. service beginning at 7:00pm on Monday, December 18, 2017 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Funeral Service begins at 12:00pm, Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at Destiny Family Christian Center. Interment to follow at 2:00pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
