Sylvia Wolinsky

May 12, 1933 — November 18, 2023

El Paso

Sylvia Wolinsky, 90, passed away peacefully at her home in El Paso, Texas on November 18, 2023, surrounded by her family and caregivers. Sylvia lived a full and vibrant life, and she will be truly missed by everyone who was lucky enough to know her.

She was born in Denver, Colorado on May 12, 1933, to Hyman and Blanche Felsen. Her family, including many aunts, uncles, and cousins, all lived in the same neighborhood. Sylvia graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado and then taught elementary school soon thereafter. She married her high school sweetheart, Dr. Irving Wolinsky, on June 14, 1955, after he graduated from dental school.

Sylvia always defined herself, first and foremost, as a wife and mother.

Her 61-year marriage to Irving was a deep and loving partnership. They did everything together in Denver at their dental office and at home. After retirement, they were able to enjoy another 27 years relaxing together in Naples, Florida.

Sylvia was always there for her four children, six grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.  She was a hard-working and dedicated office manager at her husband’s dental office, a wonderful homemaker, and a helpful volunteer for the Jewish community.  Retirement in Naples involved many bridge games, lots of travel and cruising, reading, and spending quality time with her kids and grandkids. After Irv’s passing, Sylvia moved to El Paso, Texas to be close to her children. She spent seven years living at Montevista. The family thanks her wonderful caregivers, Maricela and Irma, who treated Sylvia with kindness and compassion for the past two years.

Sylvia will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She is survived by her sister, Sharon Stein of El Paso, TX; her children: Harry Wolinsky (Rahila Yahaya) of Los Angeles, CA, Paul (Marci) Wolinsky of Scottsdale, AZ, Michael Wolinsky of Denver, CO and Linda Fruithandler of El Paso, TX; her grandchildren: Danielle Stowell (Josh), Corey and Dr. Chad Fruithandler, Brandon, Brooke and Mikayla Wolinsky; two great grandchildren: Dovid and Elisheva Foster, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her parents, Hyman and Blanche Felsen, her husband, Dr. Irving Wolinsky, her sister Florine Sachs and her son-in-law, Dr. Ross Fruithandler.

Her funeral service will be held on Wed, Nov. 29th at 1 pm at Palm Royale Cemetery in Naples, FL. Rabbi Adam Miller and Cantor Donna Azu of Temple Shalom will be officiating.
