Celebrating the life of Sylverta L. Bond
Sylverta Lee Bond was born on April 15, 1942, to the late Clarence and Wanda Taylor in El Paso, TX. She is the oldest of three children and was married 56 years to Willie T Bond who preceded her in death. They had three children. Her oldest daughter, Alfredda Allen also preceded her in death.
She attended Douglas Elementary and Ysleta High School, where she was among the first class to integrate into the high school, graduating in 1960. She continued her education by receiving a Bachelor’s from the University of Texas at El Paso and her Master’s of Education from Webster University. Sylverta proudly worked as a teacher and librarian for the Ysleta School District for 22 years. She loved to serve her community and joined the El Paso Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta, Sorority Incorporated. When she was not working or getting involved locally, she enjoyed traveling across the country and internationally to visit family and explore tourist attractions. She was sure to make a new friend wherever her journey took her. She loved word games, aquatic exercises, telling great stories, spending time with friends, and hosting lively family gatherings. On the evening of Tuesday, February 6, 2024, she was called to the Heavenly home to get the rest she had so greatly deserved. Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East in El Paso, TX, and she will be laid to rest at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. She leaves behind to carry on her legacy two sons, Kelvin Bond (Aretha) of Colorado Springs, CO, and Charles "Bito" Bond (Keedra) of Midlothian, VA; one sister, Vanessa Parlor of El Paso, TX; 8 grandchildren, Niccole Coleman (Marcus), Brandy Calvin (Marcus), Kristina Miller (John), Charles Ethan Bond, Bryce Bond, Brianna Bond, Zachary Bond, and Myles Bond, six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
