Susanne M. Shirley

Susanne M. Shirley passed away on Sunday, August 15, 2021, with her family at her bedside. She was 81 years of age. Born October 31, 1939, in Berlin, Germany, Susanne spent more than 40 years in El Paso, though she remained a proud Berliner her entire life. Susanne is survived by Bobby Shirley, her husband of 57 years, her children Benjamin and Kathleen, her grandchildren Emily, Katie, and Travis, and her great-grandson Nathaniel. Susanne and Bobby married in 1964, after meeting while Bobby was stationed in Germany, serving in the U.S. Army. The two spent the early years of their marriage in Berlin and the Bay Area of California before settling permanently in El Paso. As the loving wife of a decades-long military service member, Susanne was witty, generous, thoughtful, and remarkably adaptable. An avid reader, with a passion for gardening, flowers, and animals, Susanne had boundless energy and unbridled love for her children and family. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, carrying her through challenges, and leading her in acts of kindness and goodwill to all. Susanne will be dearly missed by her friends and family.
