Sue Ellen Chapman Carrigan, 80, passed away peacefully with her daughter at her bedside on Friday, July 7, 2023.
Sue was born in Carlsbad, New Mexico on December 1, 1942. She graduated from Austin High School and then went on to receive her degree in Music with a minor in Education from Texas Western College now known as UTEP. She would go on to teach second grade at multiple schools in Segundo Barrio often times donating her personal time and resources to those less fortunate. Upon her retirement from teaching, she went back to school to learn the Real Estate and Apartment Management Industries and embarked on a new career path. During this time, she would meet and later marry her soul mate, Michael Carrigan.
Sue worked for the El Paso Independent School District for 15 years as well as an apartment and building manager for 10 years before retiring. She loved to garden, attend Bible studies, paint, and play cards among her many hobbies/ interests. She was an active member of The Methodist Church.
Sue was preceded in death by her parents; Laurabel and Hubert F. Chapman, her husband; Michael P. Carrigan, her great-grandson; Colton J. Soto. She leaves behind her only daughter; Whitney and her husband Michael Rigsby; her brother: Alan E. Chapman; her granddaughters; Lindsey and her husband Samuel Rees, Taylor and her husband Patrick, Rachel; and 8 great grandchildren.
The family would like to extend our special thanks to Sympatico Senior Living Community for the love and care that they provided to both Sue and her family, we will be eternally grateful. And to Shayla and Enhabit Hospice thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 5:00 pm at Sunset Funeral Home – Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Dr., Prayer Service to begin at 6:00 pm.
Funeral Service is scheduled for Thursday, July 20, 2023, at 9:30 am Funeral Home – Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass Dr. Burial will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
