Stuart Lee “Moon” Hansen passed away peacefully on October 27, 2022 at the age of 77, after a long respiratory illness. The family expresses gratitude for the care and compassion of his medical team, especially the ICU nursing staff at Las Palmas.
Lee was born 0ctober 6, 1945, in Big Rapids, Michigan to Armond and Ruth Ann Hansen, and is survived by wife Nancy Hansen, stepson Gary Jensen (wife Kimberly), grandchildren Parker and Alexa, sister Bette Jensen, brother Tom (wife Ilona), and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brother Jon.
He grew up in Michigan, where he enjoyed the outdoors, swimming in summer and ice skating in winter. He played on his high school golf team, and continued playing well into adulthood.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1971, where he honorably served for 2 years. He remained in El Paso after serving, where he trained and worked as a certified respiratory therapist and certified hyperbaric technologist, retiring from Las Palmas Medical Center in 2010.
Moon was a collector of many things, including classic cars, license plates, car models, “make-you-think” t-shirts, and curios. He was also an avid Harley Davidson rider, having owned many in his lifetime. He loved all his ‘fur-babies’, more than he did some people.
He met the love of his life, Nancy, 30 years ago, and they have been happily married since 1994.
He was a passionate advocate for organ donation, having received a full liver transplant at Mayo Clinic in 2003.
In lieu of flowers, Moon’s family requests memorial donations go to Southwest Transplant Alliance (organ.org/sta-foundation) or Animal Rescue League of El Paso (arlep.org)
