Steve William Meitler, age 85, entered into eternal rest on Friday, July 29, 2022 in El Paso, Texas. He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed. Steve is preceded in death by his loving parents; Rev. August Meitler and Leona Stuive Meitler and his sister; Sandra Meitler. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years; Billie Jean Meitler; his dearest sons; Steven Dusty Meitler (Judy) of Temple, Texas, Robbie Jene Meitler (Andrew) of Boston, Massachusetts and William Montgomery Meitler of Austin, Texas; his sister; Myra Stewart (Jene); his loving grandchildren; Dr. Justin Koenemann of Temple, Texas and Casey Austen Meitler of Austin, Texas and his sister-in-law; Sally Cline (Gary). He is also survived by many extended friends and family to cherish and honor his memory.
A graduate of Oklahoma State with a master’s from the University of Texas, Steve retired from the State Farm Insurance Companies after 35 years. Steve served in the U.S. Army as a Signal Corps officer and completed 15-years in the U.S. Army Reserves. After leaving the army, he discovered and fell in love with El Paso spending his first three-years as a teacher and coach at Bowie High School. He supported The University of Texas at El Paso including serving as President of the UTEP Touchdown Club. Steve loved his family and enjoyed sports with a pretty good golf swing. Steve was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, and faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, August 9, 2022 at 11:00 am at Ascension Lutheran Church, 6520 Loma De Cristo Dr., El Paso, Texas 79912. A Private Interment is scheduled at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Those who cannot attend in person may join the memorial services virtually on Face book Live at https://www.facebook.com/sunsetfuneralhome (no account is needed). In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UTEP Miner Athletic Club – Student Athlete Scholarships 500 W. University Avenue El Paso, TX 79968, or Ascension Lutheran Church Pre-School, 6520 Loma de Christo, El Paso, Texas 79912.
