Socorro Hasegawa

Socorro Vega Hasegawa, age 93, peacefully passed away early Tuesday morning, August 20, 2024. She was born in El Paso, TX and attended Bowie High School. Socorro was a homemaker, and had several jobs in her life where she worked as a manager for Home Interiors, a real estate agent, and started her own flower shop business called The Chalet that was located on McRae Blvd. She was able to travel the world and enjoy her life with her husband, family, and friends. Socorro was widowed to Paul Hasegawa to whom they were happily married for 65 years. Paul retired from the El Paso Natural Gas Company’s Engineering Department after 25 years. He was a WWII veteran where he served with the famed Japanese American 442nd Regimental Combat Team, whose motto was “Go For Broke”. He mostly served in Italy, apart from going into France to rescue the 1st Battalion, 141st Infantry, 36th Infantry Division known as the Texas Battalion who were lost behind enemy lines. Paul was a recipient of the Army’s Bronze Star. Paul was laid to rest in 2022 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Socorro is survived by her two children Stella and Thomas. Socorro will be deeply missed by her loving family and friends. We would like to invite her friends and family to her Visitation at Sunset Funeral Homes – East, 750 N. Carolina between 4 PM – 8 PM, Tuesday night, September 3, 2024, with a Prayer Service at 6 PM. Her Funeral Service will be at 9 AM, Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Homes – East. Interment will follow at 10:30 AM at Restlawn Memorial Park, 8700 Dyer St., El Paso, TX.
