Socorro Acosta, 87, passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022. She was born in El Valle de Allende, Chihuahua, Mexico on June 27, 1935. She grew up there with her parents, Julian Meza † and Soledad Meza † and her siblings Rumaldo †, Jose †, David †, Jesus †, Pedro †, Julia, Luz Maria, Maria, Gloria, and Oscar.
Socorro independently moved to Juarez as a young woman and found employment to support herself and her family back home in el Valle de Allende. While living and working in Juarez she met Roberto Acosta whom she married. She had 5 children: Lydia Elsa †, Patricia Means (Denis), Sylvia Ruiz (Ramon), Cynthia Sepulveda (Lorenzo), and Lydia Bailey. At the age of 38 she was widowed and raised 4 daughters on her own. She had to learn to drive and manage her finances. She worked several jobs including 25 years at Great American Steakburger. She enjoyed travel to Las Vegas, Puerto Rico, various cities in Mexico, Texas, and California where she would visit with family.
She was blessed with 9 beautiful grandchildren: Elizabeth Ashby (Paul), Rebecca Ruiz, Lorenzo Sepulveda Jr., Melissa Estrada (Jordan), Ariel Pickett (Kaleb), Jose Roberto Sepulveda †, Roberto Bailey, Alex Bailey (Yazmin), and Aaron Bailey.
Her legacy continues through her 7 great grandchildren: Camryn Estrada, Garrett Pickett, Jaxon Estrada, Sadie Pickett, Luna Ruiz Heath, Robert Ashby, and Addisyn Estrada.
She will be dearly missed by her extended family, cousins, nephews, nieces, and the many friends she made in her journey through life. She will be missed by her loving pet Max.
Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 pm with a rosary at 6 pm Monday, November 7, 2022 at Sunset Funeral Home – East 750 N. Carolina. Funeral Mass will be held at 1 pm at St. John Paul II Catholic Church, 518 Gallager. Interment will follow at 2:30 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
Pallbearers: William Hayes, Gregory Hayes, Lorenzo Sepulveda Jr., Roberto Bailey, Alex Bailey, and Aaron Bailey.
