“Sister” Edelmira G. Casavantes, 97 years old, passed away on March 4, 2021 in El Paso, Texas where she was a lifelong resident. Sister was born on October 28, 1923 in El Paso, Texas to Mr. & Mrs. Ralph Gonzalez Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Carlos S. Casavantes Sr., son Rafael Judas Casavantes, sisters Velia G. Medina, Alicia G. Navarro, brothers Ralph R. Gonzalez Jr., Richard Gonzalez and granddaughter Sara V. Licon.
She is survived by her 8 children: Linda C. Licon, Daniel A. Casavantes (Maria del Carmen), Velia C. Eveler (James), Dr. Rene O. Casavantes (Luz Elena), Vita Casavantes-G., Fr. Carlos S. Casavantes Jr., Yvonne C. Lund (Robert) and Coquis Y. Casavantes; 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and her brother Rene Gonzalez.

Streaming will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 10, 2021, and 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 11, 2021. A Private Rosary will be held on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at Sunset Funeral Home-West at 7:00 p.m. and private Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, March 11, 2021 at St. Patrick Cathedral Catholic Church at 10:30 a.m. with Bishop Eduardo A. Nevares, Auxiliary Bishop of Phoenix, officiating. Entombment will be held at a later date at Evergreen Alameda Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: James Eveler, Robert Lund, Dr. Carlos Licon, James C. Lund, Luis Enrique Casavantes and Victor Medina. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Michael David Casavantes and Miguel Mario Licona.
