Sidney K. Gibson passed away on April 1, 2015 in his home with the family by his side. He was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Merit Gibson, and mother, Katherine Pauline Gibson. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sandra (Ogden) Gibson, and sons, Jeffrey (Grace), Russell (Marion), and grandson, Chance. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary Ann Hanrahan, and sister-in-law, Kathleen Dowell (Steve). Family includes: nephews Brandon Harper and family, Scott Hanrahan, nieces Jessi Harper and family, and Laura Hanrahan and family. Darleen Harris and family, Alyssa Garcia and son, and Cameron Wolfgang round out his extended family.
Sid attended New Mexico A&M (NMSU) and Texas Western College (UTEP) on scholarship. While at TWC, he played in the El Paso Symphony Orchestra and taught low brass. He taught band at Bowie and Andress High Schools and received his Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling while teaching and raising a family. He later earned his Doctorate of Jurisprudence at St Mary’s University in San Antonio after which he practiced law in El Paso for 30 years. After retirement, Sid and Sandra enjoyed travelling for several years, and were especially happy spending time with friends and family.
There will be a small memorial celebration of Sid’s life at his home for his family and a few close friends on Saturday, April 11, 2015. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity in Sid’s memory.
