Shirley Ann Worthy

November 19, 1939 — July 11, 2007

Shirley Ann Worthy was born 19 November 1939 in Bessemer Alabama to the union of the late Patrick L. and Della B. Moore. She attended Mount Zion and Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Churches and was baptized after accepting Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She later moved with her family to Detroit, Michigan where she received her education in the city’s public school system. In March 1962, she married John R. Worthy and during the preceding forty-five years traveled through out the United States , parts of Canada and Europe on various military assignments. She loved the church, bowling and Bingo. She was addressed as “MOM” by all of her bowling and usher board team members. Her special love was the usher board at Sage Hall and her ushers repeatedly selected her to be team leader. Shirley and her bowling buddies traveled throughout the southwestern United States to participate in bowling tournaments, and she was a member of the 600 Club. She was preceded in death by her 3 brothers, Grover, Robert and David, and 2 sisters Vivian and Beatrice. She departed this life on Wednesday, 11 July 2007 at Providence Memorial hospital. She leaves to mourn her passing her loving husband Major (Retired) John R. Worthy, daughter Carol J. Worthy, son Kevin S. Worthy, two grandchildren Patrick and Jalisa Chambers, one sister Mary Yancy of Detroit , MI , and host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm -9:00 pm, Monday, July 16, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Funeral Service at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Sage Hall. Committal Service at 1:30 pm, Tuesday, July 17, 2007 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Interment at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast.
