Shirley (Sam) White Jr. entered the gates of his heavenly home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 19, 2019 at the age of 94. He was born in Globe, Arizona on April 04, 1924 to Dora Josephine (Hendrix) White and Shirley White Sr.
On December 18, 1941 five students from Austin High School enlisted in the United States Navy. Their names are John Thurston, Harold Lewis, Al Woods, John E. Smock and Shirley White Jr. Sam was discharged on June 15, 1947 as a gunner’s mate. He worked for the American Can Company in Portland, Oregon and later for the Southern Pacific Railroad.
He later moved to El Paso and purchased a home on Jackson Street. He attended Texas Western college, now the University of Texas, El Paso (UTEP) and for 30 years took many math courses, studying Calculus. He tutored many students helping them to pass their Math courses. His last employment was with the El Paso Electric Company, where he worked for 35 years; retiring in October of 1983 as Assistant Superintendent of the Newman Power Station.
Sam was part of the “Dyer Street Dunkin Donut Group” where he got together with many good friends. His last home became the Ambrosio Guillen Texas State Veterans home. He was so grateful for the facility and the wonderful staff that worked there.
He is preceded in death by his parents Dora Josephine (Hendrix) White and Shirley White Sr., brothers John and Rufus White, sister Joann Braswell and sister-in-law Dorothy White. He was a loving son, brother, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him. He leaves behind to cherish his memory are his sister Phyllis Turnbloom, nephew Clay and his wife Jonnie White, and nieces Bonnie and Sandy White.

Visitation will be at 11:00am with a Funeral Service at 1:30pm on Monday, February 25, 2019 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast 4631 Hondo Pass.
