Shirley Y. Crawford was born on April 27, 1936 in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Her formal education was at Lincoln School where she graduated. She then attended Langston College in Oklahoma. In 1956 she married her childhood sweetheart Raymond G. Crawford. That union produced three sons Raymond, Mark, and Ashton Crawford. Her husband being in the military, they lived in, Panama, Germany, and Okinawa Japan, but finished out his military career in El Paso, TX.
Shirley took great pleasure in taking care of her family. Some would say she was a homemaker. She would say, “I’m a domestic engineer” and smile. She loved to travel going on cruises, by car, bus, etc. Shirley Crawford took great pleasure in different arts and crafts i.e. Painting, tailoring, piano, making jewelry and playing bid whist, samba or pinochle with family and friends. However, her ministry as a Publisher/Pioneer as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses was where she devoted 65 ½ years of her life. She was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on August 1, 1959 and served faithfully till her death. Her family and friends will always remember her as a kind, compassionate, empathetic, generous, smiling, and loving person. She enjoyed traveling, music, her grandchildren, hard candy, salt water taffy, well just about any candy and outdoor adventures. We also remember her for some of her words of wisdom i.e. “Sometimes I sits and thinks and sometimes I just sits; Remember – and this too shall end.”
Shirley Crawford is survived by her sons, Raymond M. Crawford, Ashton S. Crawford, El Paso, TX; her grandsons Jason L. Crawford, Evan Daniel Crawford, Phoenix, AZ, Killian X. Cortes-Crawford, El Paso, TX; brother George Wilson, Las Vegas, NV; sisters Mary Helen Robinson, Sharann Wilson, Denver, CO; 4 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
