Selma Josefina Adams, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 24, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 25, 1946, in El Paso, Texas, and graduated from Ysleta High School in 1965.
A devout Catholic, Selma’s faith was a guiding force in her life. She was a dedicated member of San Antonio Church, where she found comfort, strength, and community.
In 1977, Selma married the love of her life, Gary Lee Adams Sr., and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and music. She and Gary shared a deep passion for dancing—whether it was line dancing, cumbias, or the tango, they were always happiest on the dance floor.
Selma had a heart for children and dedicated her career to their well-being. She worked as a pre-kindergarten aide with the Ysleta Independent School District for 10 years before transitioning to the district’s bus transportation department, where she spent an additional 20 years. She loved her job, calling in sick only once in her entire career. “Her passion was going to work for the children,” as Gary lovingly put it. Before becoming employed, she was a much-appreciated volunteer at Sageland Elementary and Bel Air High School, where her sons were students. The children she worked with adored her, and she cherished each of them as if they were her own.
Selma’s vibrant personality shone through in everything she did. She had a special love for peacocks and proudly wore clothing and jewelry adorned with their beautiful feathers. She also had a deep appreciation for her family and extended loved ones, capturing countless memories through her passion for photography.
She is survived by her loving husband, Gary Lee Adams Sr.; her son, Joseph Adams; and her dear sisters Margarita Fernandez, Enriqueta Gonzalez, Elizabeth Fernandez, Mary Patricia Fernandez, and her dear brother Dr Peter Fernandez. She is preceded in death by her parents, Baltazar and Concepcion Fernandez; her siblings, Baltazar Fernandez, Jr., Irene Lucero, and Connie Labrado; and her beloved son, Gary Lee Adams, Jr.
Selma’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family and community will be deeply missed. Her legacy of love, faith, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those she touched.
