Sara was a resident of Socorro Texas and came from one of the first descendants of the Jurado family. She was a devoted Catholic and prayed the rosary daily. When we where young we would get ready for Sunday mass when we heard the church bells ring and we would then start walking to the church. At a very young age, she worked hoeing the cotton fields and picking the cotton. She was paid very little for the hard labor. In her teen’s she worked at a restaurant. A gentleman that ran Gunning Casteel would go and eat where Sara worked. One day that gentleman offered her a little more money to go work in the pharmacy store and Sara decided to go work there as this was a way to help her parents out.
When Sara’s children were older, she worked for YISD for over 9 years as a cook and during that time she made aprons for co-workers as that was her past time, sewing, knitting, baking and watching her novelas.
Sara was a loving and devoted mother with her children at a young age and when times were tough, we would celebrate our Thanksgivings by mom cooking, two chickens, homemade stuffing, pumpkin pies and the best lemon pies we have ever eaten. Those were one of the many happiest Thanksgivings we celebrated. When she made fried chicken she would serve us the chicken and she would nibble on the neck bone because she wanted to make sure her children would have enough to eat. These are some of the many beautiful memories that we will always remember and cherish in our hearts.
