In Loving Memory Santiago Isaac Bustamante ( Per-hui’n) June 13, 1921 – December 10, 2010 The Pueblo of Ysleta del Sur is mourning the passing of our beloved Tai-kabedeh Cacique (Chief) Santiago Isaac Bustamante (Per- hui’n) who has returned home to the Grandfathers on the evening of December 8, 2010. Cacique Bustamante dedicated his entire life to Ysleta del Sur Pueblo where he served as a Tribal Leader in various positions including; Captain, Agucil (Tribal Sherriff) and finally as the Cacique (spiritual leader) from 2000 to present. Born on the Pueblo’s Patron Feast day of San Antonio de Padua June 13, 1921, Cacique Bustamante fulfilled his Destino and led the Pueblo in hard times always steering the Tiguas toward maintaining its traditions that have survived from time immemorial. Cacique Bustamante was a strong driver of Pueblo Traditions, Federal Recognition efforts, and Tribal Sovereignty. In addition to his service to the Pueblo, Cacique Bustamante served in the United States Army during World War II. Cacique Santiago Bustamante is survived by the Tigua People of Ysleta del Sur Pueblo who will carry forward his spiritual teachings in honor and memory of him. Cacique Bustamante’ spiritual guidance will carry the pueblo forward. His kind nature and willingness to give all that he had to the Tigua people will live on. Cacique Bustamante’s spiritual teachings will continue to guide the Pueblo. Dios Ba Ma Hibe-Che Tai-kabedeh Visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Sunday, December 12, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home- Americas. Visitation will continue from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM Sunday, December 12, 2010 with a Vigil at 7:00 PM at Our lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church (Old Mission). Mass of the Resurrection will be said at 10:00 AM Monday, December 13, 2010 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel ( Old Mission) located at 131 S. Zaragosa. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home- Americas.
