With deep sadness we announce the passing of Sam Cordova on March 28, 2011. Sam was a longtime resident of El Paso, born in Hurley, NM on May 31, 1938. He will be lovingly missed by his sons, Benjamin of El Paso, Sam and his wife Jeanette of Las Cruces, William and Jacob of El Paso. He was “Papa Sam” to his grandkids Mia, Ben, Jaden, and Elijah. Also sharing his memory are his sisters, Dora Gonzales of Tuscon, Ruth Valdez of El Paso, Betsy Almendarez and husband Peter of Odessa, his brothers Jimmy and Sal, both from Fresno, his ex wife Dina Marcus of El Paso, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sam was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Esther Cordova, his brothers Mike and Ben, and sisters Elisa Gutierrez and Esther Carillo. He graduated from El Paso Technical Institute in 1956. He was employed by White Sands Missile Range and later transferred to Ft. Bliss where he retired in 1993. He was currently a Real Estate agent with Success Realty and Carefree Homes. Sam truly was a people person who never met a stranger. He was a father figure and a positive role model for many of Bengy and Sam’s friends. He had many friends through his involvement with the Shriners’, Boy Scouts, Andress Football Boosters, and Highland Presbyterian Church. We will miss his great sense of humor and his many wonderful stories.
