SFC. Samuel Raymond Adkins, U.S. ARMY (RET.) was born December 12, 1943, in Lynch, Kentucky to Henry and Lurlie (Lowe) Adkins. Sam passed away Tuesday May 10, 2022, at William Beaumont Army Medical Center after an extended illness, surrounded by family members.
Samuel came from humble beginnings and a large family. He joined the US ARMY in 1962 and fought in the Vietnam War. Shortly after he met his loving wife, Christa Wershall, in Paris, France 1964. Samuel built a career of 21 years in the ARMY and retired in 1983. He spent a copious amount of time outdoors enjoying various activities from camping with his grandchildren, to taking his motorcycle on many lengthy expeditions. Although he will be missed greatly, fond memories include him being the life of the party, his charming whit, and warm smile. Those around him were no stranger to his sense of humor and intelligence. He was an outdoorsman who loved living life hands on.
