Salvador E. Chavez of Socorro, Texas passed away on April 25, 2013 at the age of 96. He was born on October 23, 1916 and was a World War II Veteran. During his time in the US Army, Salvador served as a Marksman and Supply Clerk, he was awarded the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and Victory Medal. After obtaining Honorable Discharge, Salvador was employed by the United States Civil Service, Fort Bliss, TX. During his employment, Salvador was awarded for his outstanding performance of duty as Warehouse Forklift Operator, granted membership into the One Thousand Hour Club for his cooperative, diligent and faithful attendance and was recognized for 30 years of Federal Service. Since 1974, Salvador was an active member of the Open Arms Community and a member of Saints Peter and Paul Parish, where he served as a Communion Minister. He is survived by his wife, Celia Chavez, married 61 years; his children and their spouses, Nina and Scott DeLee (Dallas, TX), Orlando Chavez (Dallas, TX), Mary Lou and Carlos Sanchez (El Paso, TX), Salvador Chavez, Jr. (Dallas, TX), Blanca Armendariz (El Paso, TX); grandchildren, Talia Sanchez, Carlos Sanchez, Jr., Allison Armendariz, Ricky Armendariz, Salvador Chavez III (Trey), Reed Chavez and Brynn Chavez; great grandchildren, Jade Sanchez and Matthew Sanchez; brother, Avelardo Chavez; and nieces and nephews. Visitation: 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and Rosary 7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home-Americas 9521 N. Loop Dr. Funeral mass: 11:30 am, Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Sts.
