Ruth M. King

Ruth M. King was born September 14, 1920 in El Paso, Texas. Ruth transitioned to be with the Lord on May 20th 2018 at home. Ruth gave her life to Christ at a young age and was baptized at Second Baptist Church in El Paso, Texas. Ruth’s parents were Isiah and Rosa Lea Nash which preceded her in death. She was the first of five children, of which four preceded her in death. She attended public schools in El Paso Texas and graduated from Douglass High School. Ruth received a Baccalaureate of Science degree in nursing from Meharry School of Nursing, in Nashville TN. She also received a Baccalaureate of Arts in Sociology from Fisk University. She was awarded a fellowship to study at the University of Toronto, Canada where she received her certification in Teaching, concentrating in Nursing studies. Ruth was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority for Sixty–Eight (68) years, during which time she was named Delta Woman of the Year by El Paso Alumni Chapter in 1985. Ruth was a lifetime member of the Black Nurses Association and Meharry Alumni Association. Ruth was a board member of the YWCA, United Way, General Assistance Agency of El Paso County, El Paso Chapter of Girls Scouts of America, Council on Aging, and Private Industry Council. Ruth served with the El Paso Inter Club Council from its inception and for several years thereafter. She served as Treasurer of the Tri-State Opera Guild, as well as a volunteer for the Red Cross at Ft Bliss. Ruth’s career in nursing included service in several local hospitals and the ‘Public School District of El Paso. Ruth was appointed as a District 17 Committee on Admissions Member by the Supreme Court. Ruth was a member of Chapel One on Fort Bliss, for thirty (30) years until her death. Ruth married Freddie Lee King on 3 February 1951. Freddie also preceded Ruth in death. Ruth and Freddie are the parents of one son Michael Anthony King. Ruth leaves to cherish her memory a loving son Michael A. King and Daughter in-law Rhonda G. King. One surviving sister Rosa Lea Nash. Seven Grandchildren, Anthony J. King, Michael D. King, Cameron L. Harris, Jaleshia L. Harris, Kiel C. King, Kelli C. King, and Khaleb M. King. Seven Great Grandchildren, Three Nieces, Leslie Hudson, Eugenia Hudson Jones and Julie Hudson. Three Nephews, Mike Hudson, Larry Hudson and Curtis Hudson. Ruth has one God Daughter, Valerie Washington Northington, Ruth also leaves to cherish her memory a special family friend Marilyn Castillo as well as a host of other relatives, friends and associates. Visitation 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Sunset Funeral Homes- East, 750 N. Carolina. Lunch/Repass from 11:00 AM to 12:15 PM, Friday, June 1, 2018 at Second Baptist Church 401 S.
