Ruben B. Salcido, age 100, was called home by our heavenly Father on November 23, 2022. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ruben is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Lucia (née Chavez), children, Elizabeth Cordova (Gilbert), Amy Paz, Blanca De la Rosa (Julio), Lillian Salcido (Carter White), Ruben Salcido Jr., and Michael Salcido. He had fourteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, multiple nieces and nephews.
Ruben was born in Sanderson, Texas, the youngest of fifteen children of Juan Salcido and Gertrudis Beltrán. The family moved to El Paso which became his home where he married and had his family.
Ruben served in the U.S. Army in combat in France and Germany during World War II. He was a civilian employee for the Department of the Army at Ft. Bliss for over 22 years, earning commendations for his work including a sustained superior service award. He also worked for the German Air Defense School and as a Volkswagen mechanic.
Ruben was politically active, recognized by President Bill Clinton and inducted into the El Paso County Democratic Party Hall of Fame. He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church for over 50 years and was the longest living member of the El Paso Knights of Columbus.
Ruben loved the Dallas Cowboys and fishing but most of all he loved to play his guitar at family gatherings. We will all miss his warm smile, his kind heart, and great hugs.
