Ruben M. Aguilar 63, beloved husband, father and grandfather, continued his journey on May 22, 2011, to be with his lord. He was a life- long resident of El Paso, Texas. He served his country proudly in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War in the 101st airborne division. During his tour of duty he received the Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Bronze Service Star, Good Conduct Medal and Expert Badge w.M16 Rifle Bar. Throughout his life he was a devoted father and coached, participated and volunteered in many sports in order to be a part of his children’s lives. He was a life- long member of the VFW post 8782, and the DAV. Ruben was a member of Abundant Living Faith Center in El Paso, Texas . Ruben is survived by his wife of 34 years Ofelia, his son Captain Ruben Aguilar Jr., Daniel A. Aguilar, his daughter Melissa L. Aguilar and the most precious gift of his life, was his granddaughter Savannah Ariel. Survived also by his mother-in-law Velia Ternoir and daughter-in-law Lily. Survived by his family are his sister Clara Walker, Irene Salas, brothers Alfredo Aguilar, and Jose Rios. His nieces and nephews, Patsy, Irma , Dennis, John, Gracie, Liz, Rod, Bonnie, Monica, Michelle, Yvette, Michael, Amanda and Alfredo III, and 23 great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Alfredo and Josefina Aguilar, sisters Maria de Jesus Montelongo, and Manuela Avila, may they now join each other in heaven. Ruben will be missed for his great sense of humor, he could make us laugh and cry at the same time, but most of all he will be missed for his love and loyalty to his family. His favorite hobby was fishing, casting a line and patiently waiting for a bite. Ruben was sick in his final days but still continued to smile and pray every day. He was a very special person in everyone’s lives and will be remembered forever. Visitation will be from 4-9 pm Wednesday, May 25, 2011 with a prayer service at 6 pm at Sunset Funeral Home-East, 750 N. Carolina Dr. Funeral service will be at 12 pm Thursday, May 26, 2011 also at Sunset Funeral Home-East. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Services are entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-East.
