Rosario Roy Giuliano, a long time resident of El Paso, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2007, after a brief illness. The second of three children, Roy was born to Joseph and Theresa Giuliano in Brighton, Mass. on May 17, 1927. He grew up in the Boston area, leaving home at the age of 17 to serve in the U.S. Navy for nine years. After a brief interlude, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country for a total of 28 years. He was a decorated veteran of World War II, The Korean Conflict and the war in Vietnam. Upon his retirement, he settled in El Paso and pursued a second career in the banking world. He rose to senior positions at the State National Bank and its successor, M-Bank. After retiring from the his second career, he traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Frequently, his destinations were reunions of his old military units.
Roy was “Papa” to his children and simply “Opa” to all around him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Theresa Giuliano; a sister, Josephine D’Orsi of Everett, Mass.; and most tragically, by his wife of 37 years, Adelheid. He is survived by his younger sister, Martha Bertoncini of Ipswich, Mass.; son Joseph W. Giuliano of Sudden Valley, Wash., and his wife, Patti; son Thomas R. Giuliano of El Paso; daughter Anna T. Mentas of Laguna Beach, Calif. and her husband Chuck; and son Michael A. Giuliano of Cincinnati, Ohio and his wife Nikki. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. His sister-in-law Irma Nutt, sister of his wife Adelheid, of El Paso long occupied a special place in his heart. Additionally, Roy is survived by long time friend and traveling companion, Marianne C. Carrier of El Paso.
A viewing will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, Monday, October 29, 2007 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Mass will be held at 12:30 pm, Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church (Chapel #2) at Fort Bliss, followed by burial at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with full military honors.
