Rosa May Egbert Baker, 92, died peacefully October 9, 2008. She was born in San Antonio, TX to Orville E. Egbert and Jessie May Borroum Egbert. In 1924, Rosa May and her parents moved to El Paso, TX where her father practiced medicine for many years. A graduate of Austin High School, Rosa May attended the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She also attended Katherine Gibbs Secretarial School in Boston, MS. In honor of her father, Mrs. Baker created the Orville E. Egbert M.D. Endowed Chair in Nursing and Health Sciences and the Orville E. Egbert M.D. Endowed Scholarship Fund, College of Nursing and Health Sciences at UTEP in 1997. Her other philanthropic pursuits included 15 years of volunteer service at St. Clair Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and later at Sierra Medical Center in 1976. Rosa May is survived by her brother, Edward Egbert and sister-in-law, Barbara Egbert, nieces, Diane Bernard (David Bernard) and Laura Stearne, great nephew, Elliott Bernard and great niece, Rachel Bernard all of El Paso. She is also survived by her cousin, Sarah Lehman of Ft. Worth, TX. A Graveside Service only will be held in Beeville, TX. In lieu of flowers, please make donations, to the Orville E. Egbert M.D. Endowed Scholarship Fund, UTEP College of Nursing and Health Sciences, and the Orville E. Egbert M.D Endowed Chair in Nursing and Health Sciences.
