Roger Allen Spain

June 23, 1940 — June 30, 2012

Roger (Rod) Allen Spain passed away on June 30, 2012. He was 72 years old. Born on June 23, 1940 in Riverside, California, Rod was a long time resident of El Paso, having moved here with his family in 1973. He worked in local radio and television media for approximately 35 years before retiring in 2006. Rod was a Navy veteran, having served in the Phillippines from 1958-1961 where he first put his passion for music and media to work as an Armed Forces Radio disc jockey. Rod was an avid tennis player and was actively involved in the local tennis community for over twenty years. He loved golf and enjoyed playing both recreationally and in local senior tournaments. Rod was an incredibly gentle, caring, and generous man who always put his love of family above all else. His sense of humor and his devotion to the people he loved most will be greatly missed. He will always live in the hearts of those who love him. Rod was preceded in death by his mother Lillian King and his step-father Joe King as well as his brothers, Donnie King and Ronnie Campbell. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Vicki, his two children, Roger and Samira (Tommy), his grandchildren Diego, Kelly, and Roger James, and his sister Carolyn Neil (Ed). The Spain family would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to those who cared for Rod right up until the end including Dr. Arsenio Lopez, Dr. Hernando Garcia, Dr. Esteban Quirarte, Dr. David Dorsey, Dr. Stanley Wagner, and the fine staffs at the Veteran’s Affairs Clinic, Texas Oncology, and Sierra Medical Center. The Spain family respectfully requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Texas Oncology, 1901 Grandview Ave., El Paso, TX 79902. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 am, Friday, July 6, 2012 at Sunset Funeral Home-West with a Funeral Service at 11:00 am. Interment will be Private.
