On Tuesday, September 18, 2018, Rodolfo “Rudy” Esquivel passed away at the age of 85, peacefully at home among his family.
Rudy was born on June 6, 1933 in El Paso, TX to Tomas and Patricia Esquivel. He was one of 9 siblings. He grew up in La Mesa, NM where he met and eventually married the love of his life, Carmen on July 6, 1958. They have two sons, Michael and David. Rudy honorably served in the United States Air Force attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He was a radio operator for various missions such as search and rescue as well as in-air refueling. Once out of the Air Force, he began his career as a service station/automotive repair owner-operator in El Paso, Tx. He did this until he retired, making many friends along the way.
Rudy had a passion for golf, he was proud of his service in the Air Force, but most of all he was a committed family man. He shared his love of golf with his sons and any other family members or friends willing to learn the game. The service station was a second home for him and his family, with Carmen doing the bookkeeping and his sons working summers. Baseball season, he was the coach. High school band with his sons, he was the band booster president. He was a bit of a perfectionist, stern and serious when needed, but also loving and compassionate. He had a quick wit and loved to joke around, keeping this up even during hospice care.
Rudy is survived by his wife Carmen, his sons, Michael and David, grandchildren Luisa, Devon, Shaunna and David, great grandchildren, Caleb, Micah, Kaytlin, Brenden, Jacob and Scott, brother Ramon and sister Emma. Just as important to him was his extended family, too numerous to mention all by name. Rudy had a rich, full life and will be missed dearly.
