Whitley , Robert D. 96 years. He was born September 11, 1911 in Solomon, Kansas, and passed away October 11, 2007. He was a resident of White Acres Assisted Living facility. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 24 years, retiring in 1965 as a Chief Warrant Officer-3. He was a long time Miner basketball fan. One of his fondest memories was meeting the 1966 National Championship team at the airport upon their return to El Paso. Bob is survived by his daughters-Denise Rogers (John) of Valley Center, Kansas, and Nancy Craig (Bob) of El Paso. He also is survived by four grandchildren, Kalen, Kristin, Ben, and Bret; and six great-grandchildren, Sheridan, Allison, Faith, Samuel, Harry, and Eli. Bob is also remembered for funding a scholarship at his high school in Solomon, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to "Paws for Love" sent in care of the Humane Society of El Paso, 325 Shelter Place, El Paso, 79905 Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, October 16th at 11:OO am at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Pastor Carlos Clugy-Soto will officiate. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Homes-East.
