Robert Lee Sullivan passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020. Robert was born in Atlanta, Georgia to Effie Austell and Ernest Sullivan. He was their 6th child. Robert was pre-deceased by his beloved mother who raised him, Effie Austell, Brothers, Ernest Sullivan Jr., Clifford Sullivan, Howard Sullivan and Sisters, Miriam Weaver and Christine Perryman. He was also pre-deceased by his dad. Robert went to school and graduated from Washington High School in Atlanta, Allied Technical School in Chicago, and graduated El Paso Community College with an Associate’s Degree. At a very young age Robert accepted the Lord and was later ordained where he pastored a small church in Atlanta. He read his bible and sung songs of worship. He had a good voice that he lifted up often when he felt the spirit. Robert was multitalented and loved doing things. He painted pictures, he made clocks and tables from redwood and went to school to learn about furniture restoration. Robert joined the US Army in 1969 in Atlanta where he was visiting his mother who was in ill health. He was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia, for training at the Airborne school which he loved. He was ordered to Vietnam as a supply specialist where he soon became a seasoned warrior. He gives God the praise for returning him from the “Field of Battle”. He never missed a supply run! Robert attended man military schools and was assigned to tough duty stations. He was assigned to teach logistics at Quartermaster school in Fort Lee Virginia. He was the special project manager for the M-1 Tank and Bradley Fighting Vehicle system at Vilseck, Germany. From 1975 to 1978 Robert was in the 72nd Signal Battalion in Karlsruhe, Germany. Robert became First Sergeant and was responsible for over 270 personnel for a logistical support unit at Fort Bliss, Texas. He had other tough assignments where he did exceptional jobs. He received many awards and medals leading up to his retirement from the US Army in 1989 after 20 years of service. In 1972 Robert was introduced to his loving wife Lilie whom he met at Fort McPierson, Georgia. They had a beautiful military wedding on August 23rd, 1973 which ed to a long and happy 47 years of marriage. They had no children born to the union. Robert leaves his wife, Lilie, two sons; Robert L. Sullivan Jr., Victor Sullivan. Two daughters; Iris Waymon and Michelle Sullivan; 13 Grandchildren; Numerous Great Grandchildren; One Great-Great Grandson; a loving Sister, Lois West; many nieces and nephews. His brother in-law Al Johnson (Louise), Sisters In-Law, Beetie Tatum and Daisy Johnson; his favorite nephews and favorite nieces and many friends. Gathering of Remembrance will be from 11:30 AM – 12:00 PM, with Military Honors to follow on Monday, December 21, 2020 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast, 4631 Hondo Pass, El Paso, Texas. Inurnment will take place at 1:30 PM, Monday, December 21, 2020 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
