Robert E. Shipp was born in Manteno, Illinois on October 4, 1920 and passed away on September 5, 2008. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Shipp and sister, Aileen. He is survived by his wife, Eunice Shipp, step-daughters, Adrienne Bauchert, Marilyne Kelly, and Darlene Roberts, step-sons, Robert Dawson and Victor Padilla, ten grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. Bob was a member of University Presbyterian Church and was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, and the Exchange Club. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1950, attained the rank of Captain, and received his honorable discharge. He then went to work as the Recreation Director for the City of El Paso from 1951-1960 and held the city’s first day camp for children with disabilities. During this period, he received a Bachelor of Science Degree from UTEP. This led to a high level position with the National Recreation Association where he was their representative for the western region, and then to his final career move to become a recreation expert with the Department of the Air Force before finally retiring from full time work. Visitation will be from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm, Monday, September 15, 2008 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 pm. Graveside Service will be at 1:00 pm, Monday, September 15, 2008 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Interment will be at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
