Lt. Col. (Retired) Robert Carter Braxton IV, a beloved husband and father passed away 3 November 2006 in a local hospital. He was a veteran of 27½ years, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam, entering military service in 1942. One of his latter assignments was Air Force Liaison Officer at W.B.A.M.C. His decorations and commendations were: The Bronze Star, National Defense Medal, Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation, Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Air Force Longevity Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters, Air Force Service Medal, Achievement Medal and a WWII Medal and many other decorations. Born to Robert Carter Braxton and Mary B. Price Braxton on 6 July 1913 in Winston-Salem, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother John Marshall Braxton. He lived in Richmond, Virginia then moving to Long Beach, California in 1933. He loved to play golf in Recreation Park in Long Beach. Worked as an insurance agent - had various hobbies like reading, stamps and coin collecting and loved antique cars. Survived by his wife of 49½ years, Leecy E. Braxton, sons, Robert Carter Braxton V (Bob) and William Marshall Braxton (Bill), brother-in-law Charles W. Pope and wife, Mary Ann of Southwest Georgia. Lt. Col. Braxton was loved and respected by his family and friends. We will all miss him. Visitation 6:00 - 9:00 pm, Tuesday, November 7, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Funeral Services are scheduled for 1:00 pm, Wednesday, November 8, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Homes-Northeast. Interment will follow with full military honors at Fort Bliss National Cemetery.
