Robert N. Anderson

Robert N. Anderson Colonel U.S. Army (Ret.) passed away on April 20, 2011. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bernice of 62 years. He is survived by his daughter, Sheila M. Anderson M.D. and son, Robert M. Anderson. He retired from Fort Bliss where he served his last four years of duty as Provost Marshal. He had over 30 years of active military service. Anderson joined the Marine Corps while still a student in high school. As a member of the 3rd Marine Division, 21st Regiment, he participated in the Guam and Iwo Jima Campaigns. He received his Army Commission through the ROTC program while a student at Michigan State University and was designated a distinguished military graduate. Shortly after graduation he entered the Army. During his period of service his command assignments included Company, Battalion, Military Police Group, and Brigade. He also commanded two stockades to include the 8th Army Stockade in Korea. His staff assignments included Division Provost Marshal 4th Armored Division, Deputy Provost Marshal, Military Assistance Command Vietnam, and Division Chief, HQS U.S. Army Europe. He also served as Associate Professor of Military Science, University of California, Santa Barbara. As a young Lt., he commanded the Security Platoon for HQS, Allied Land Forces, Izmir, Turkey. His decorations included the Legion of Merit (2 awards), Meritorious Service Medal (3 awards), Purple Heart, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2 awards) and the Marine Corps Combat Action Award. He was a member of American Legion Post 58, The Retired Officer Association, and the Fort Bliss Golf Course. While on active duty he served three years as President of their Board of Governors. A Committal Service will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
