Rick Andre Ballard, a beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and nephew, passed away on November 3rd, 2024 at the age of 29 in El Paso, TX. He leaves behind a tradition of love, laughter, and countless cherished memories with his family and friends. Known for his boundless energy, unwavering kindness, and infectious passion for life, Ricky touched the hearts of everyone he knew. Today we celebrate a richly lived life and honor the legacy of a remarkable person.

Rick was born on July 10th, 1995 in El Paso, TX to his loving mother, Veronica Olivas. He grew up as one of four siblings, and was always greatly loved by the entire family. During his childhood Ricky was known for his sweet personality, and calm demeanor. He enjoyed playing adventurously with his siblings and cousins, spending time with his mom, and participating in youth sports. As Ricky grew into his teenage years he developed a passion for music, and basketball. He attended Eastlake High School in Horizon, and was a member of the school’s first graduating class in 2014. During these years he was a member of the school choir, and the varsity basketball team.

Following high school Rick’s desire for personal growth and adventure motivated him to enlist into the United States Navy. During his six years of exemplary service he was stationed in San Diego, CA, Baltimore, MD, and Pensacola, FL, while beginning an accomplished career in cyber security. He often told stories of what it was like sailing across the ocean, seeing new and exciting things. Rick’s service in the Navy truly shaped him into the man he became by teaching him discipline, and proper work ethic.

After a successful Navy career Rick received an honorable discharge and pursued higher education in Orlando, FL. While also working full-time he was able to complete his Bachelor’s of Science in Cyber Security from Purdue University. Although this was already an outstanding level of professional achievement, Rick was never complacent in life. He continued his education and received his Master’s of Science in Cyber Security Management from Purdue in 2024. This was truly inspiring to the entire family, Rick will always be remembered for his dedication to growth and passion for achievement.

Anyone that was blessed enough to know Rick, knew that family always came first. He was fiercely loyal to those he loved, and nobody was more important than his mother Veronica who was the light of his life. One of Rick’s best personality traits was his high moral character. He held himself, and everyone around him, to a standard of excellence. He was also an amazing son, and would regularly find ways to love his mom and siblings. No matter what was going on in his life, everyone knew that he would drop anything to take care of his family. He loved planning family vacations, and was an avid traveler. Some of Rick’s exotic travel destinations included Turks and Caicos, the Bahamas, various places in Mexico, and Puerto Rico. He took excellent care of his mind and body, and stayed prepared for the next adventure whether that was an international destination, or a peaceful walk down the street. His parents and siblings share many happy memories of talking to Ricky on the phone for hours while he was enjoying his afternoon strolls.

Rick is survived by his loving parents, Veronica and Tomas Silva; his sister, Vivian; his brothers, Oscar and Isaiah; his maternal grandmother; his niece and nephew; and many loving cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A vigil and rosary will be held in Rick’s memory on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Sunset Funeral Home East, 750 N Carolina.
