Richard Proffitt

December 29, 1953 — December 19, 2020

Richard “Richie” Proffitt, 66, passed away on December 19, 2020 in El Paso. Richie was born in Germany to Woodrow and Madeline Proffitt. He grew up in El Paso and attended Irvin High School before moving to Dallas. Richie was an electrician by trade and traveled the world while working for John Watson Landscape Illumination in Dallas. He learned photography as a way to capture his adventures and collected memorabilia from every country he visited. Richie spent the second half of his career at Designer’s Mart in El Paso. He was known for his vast knowledge on just about any topic. They became a second family to him. Richie was a natural mentor and had a generous spirit. He took great care to look after the people he loved. Music was an important part of his life. He was a self-taught musician and could spend hours talking about artists and sharing music videos he found online. He enjoyed live performances and, in recent years, loved watching the band of a close friend called After Dark. Richie is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Christy “Shae” and Steven Morehead; grandchildren Ethan, Hannah, Brooklyn; siblings Jerry, David, Deborah, Kathy, sister-in-law Dorothy; numerous nieces and nephews; and his Designer’s Mart family. He was preceded in death by his son Bryan; the mother of his children Charolyn “Punky”; step-daughter Shanyn; brother Steve; and his parents. A private celebration of life will take place with family and friends.
