Richard W. Kastner (CWO2 Ret) passed away on April 18, 2017 at his El Paso home surrounded by his loving family. He was 80 years old.
Richard was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on May 10, 1936, the son of Herbert and Edna (Steinhagen) Kastner. After graduating from Rufus King High School in 1954, he joined the Army and proudly served his country for 24 years. In 1963 he married Sharon, the love of his life. Following his retirement from the military, he worked an additional 20 years for Civil Service.
Richard was a decorated veteran, a loving husband, and a dedicated father, whose primary goal in life was to provide present and future security for his family. He enjoyed reading, working crosswords puzzles, and watching classic movies. He was an avid football fan and especially enjoyed his favorite football team, the Green Bay Packers. His favorite pastime was spending time with family and socializing with friends at the VFW. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Richard leaves behind his wife Sharon of 53 years; two sons, Michael Kastner of El Paso and Steven Kastner of Houston; daughter Susan Kastner-Camino (Hank), and two grandchildren, Marie and Ryan Camino of Fort Myers, Florida.
Graveside services with full military honors will be conducted at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery on April 26, 2017 at 11:00 am. Following the ceremony, a reception celebrating Richard's life will held at the VFW Post 8550, 4714 Titanic Ave, El Paso, Texas, 79904.
