Rene Okubo

Rene Okubo passed away in the early morning of July 13, 2023, in El Paso, TX at the age of 53. Rene was a wonderful son, brother, nephew, cousin, padrino, and friend to so many. Rene was one of eight children, number 6 of the Okubo’s.  At the age of 17 Rene was in a car accident in which he survived as a quadriplegic. This did not stop him from living his life as he went on to be a successful business owner, devoted husband, and loving brother and friend. There was never a dull moment during football season as friends and family would always gather at Rene’s to watch the games. His home was always open to everybody and if you came by unannounced he would always be there to receive you with a smile. At the age of 24, Rene married Alma Olmedo and for many years he was blessed to have her at his side. Rene and Alma were godparents to 12 children who they loved and cared for with mucho amor.  Rene lived a life of courage and sincerity that he displayed every single day of his life. He was the glue that held the family together. He is proceeded in death by his father Roberto Okubo and sister Monica Okubo he is survived by his loving mother Martha Okubo, beloved sisters; Martha Valenzuela, Margaret Torres, Rachel Okubo, Rebecca Navarrette, loving brothers; Roberto Okubo, Ryoichi Okubo.

A Visitation will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler Dr. with a Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 20, 2023, at St. Ignatius Catholic Church, 408 Park St. A committal service will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
