Raymundo Vicente Rodriguez 93, also known as "Mundo," "Ray," or "Rod," was called to be with our Lord and Savior in Heaven on April 25, 2023.
Raymundo was born on April 5, 1930, and grew up in El Paso, TX. At 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, 1st Marine Division, fought in the Korean War, and survived The Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in the winter of 1950. Raymundo received numerous medal achievements, including Combat Action, Presidential Unit Citation, Good Conduct with 3 Bronze Stars, National Defense Service, Korean Service with 1 Silver Star and 2 Bronze Stars, United Nations Service Korea, Korean Defense Service, and the Korean Presidential Unit Citation.
After serving his country, Raymundo worked as a civil service employee for NASA and Ft. Bliss Fire Department.
During his retirement, he enjoyed playing golf, traveling to Hawaii and Spain, and reminiscing about his past. Raymundo was always there for his family, friends, and neighbors in their time of need and was regarded by many for his sense of humor and generosity.
Raymundo is survived by his children: Patrick (Yvonne), David, Robert (Rene), Adam, and Rosanna (Anthony). Grandchildren: Andre, Austin, Daniel, Tyler, Thomas, Avery, Alec, and Aiden. Siblings: Linda, Ralph, and Rudy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Refugio Rodriguez and siblings Lenchita, Adolfo, Victor, Vicente, and Bobby.
Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 PM with Rosary at 6:00 PM on Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Sunset Funeral Homes- Northeast 4631 Hondo Pass. Funeral Mass will take place at 9:00 AM on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church 4805 Byron St. Committal Service will follow at 10:30 AM at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with Honors.
