Raymond Wooley

December 29, 1929 — January 7, 2016

Raymond Wooley was born to Carl and Mary Wooley in Decatur, Illinois on December 29, 1929. He was the youngest sibling of brothers Carl Wooley Jr. and Robert Wooley and a sister, Mary Francis Nettles. After high school he enlisted in the Army. While stationed in Okinawa in 1953 he met and married Yoshiko Kaumitsu, a clerk typist at the base. They had five children: George Wooley, Sandra Parsons, Michael Wooley, Nina Pochick, and Lily Wooley. After retiring from his military career at Fort Bliss he began working for the US Postal Service, where he was a popular mail carrier for decades before his retirement there. He is survived by his wife, Yoshiko Wooley, children, and grandchildren: Oliver and Pete Asp, Schayla Thompson, Crystal Villa, Candice Pochick, and Ryan, Corrine, and Sam Wooley. He will also be missed by his great-grandchildren: Elijah, Joshua, Aome, Zander, and Zen. “He was truly a wonderful human being, who was wonderful to his wife and cared deeply for his family.” “Dad was a friend to a lot of people; not only to his children and grandchildren but to all he met. Many people depended upon his abundant love. His greatest happiness was seeing his family happy. He will truly be missed. We love you, ol’man! Take care of your beloved dogs, who went to heaven before you until we meet again.” “Grandpa was more than just a grandfather. He was also a stand-in father and friend.” “Pop has a great sense of humor and was always ready with a joke to lighten the mood. Even his loving wife of over Sixty years of marriage could not resist laughing at some of the same stories she had heard many times before. Their love was special!” Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 9:00 PM with Full Military Honors at 5:30 PM followed by Funeral Service at 6:00 PM Monday, January 11, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Northeast.
