Raquel Duran

April 23, 1928 — December 29, 2009

Our beloved mother, Raquel N. Duran, 81, entered into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ on December 29, 2009. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Pedro C. Duran. She is survived by her children, Hilda Gill, Pedro N. Duran, Juan V. Duran, Maria E. Martin, and Irma Jackson; and by her sons/daughters-in-law, Donald Jackson, Thomas Martin, John Gill, Raquel M. Duran and Elizabeth Duran. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mrs. Duran was a long time resident of El Paso and a devoted member of the Catholic Church being a very spiritual woman. She enjoyed painting, spending time with her family and friends and helping out those in need. She was also a well respected creative writer, a source of inspiration to other writers at Tumblewords and Rincon Bohemio due to her amazing talent and humility. Her passing will leave an emptiness in all who knew and loved her. “Mom, our lives will go on without you, but nothing will be the same. We’ll have to hide our heartaches when someone speaks your name. Sad are the hearts that love you, silent the tears that fall. Living our lives without you will be the hardest part of all. Your heart was always kind and true. Whenever we needed someone, we could always count on you. We find great comfort in knowing that you are no longer suffering and finally crossed the bridge into God’s arms in which you now rest.” Our thanks to Dr. Inez Sanchez-Rivera for the loving care, kindness and respect you gave to our mom, you were truly an angel, and to Envision Hospice for all of the help and support. Visitation will be from 5:00-9:00 pm, Sunday, January 3, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with a Vigil/Rosary at 7:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Monday, January 4, 2010 at Holy Family Church. Interment will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast.
