Ralph M. Powers
Lt. Col. Ralph (Ret.) passed away November 21, 2012. He is survived by his wife Naomi Sommerville Powers, son Patrick Powers and sister Rossie Bruns of Seattle, WA. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Powers. Ralph was the eldest of eight children. He spent 34 years in the U.S. Army, retiring in 1963 at Fort Bliss, TX. During his army career he served in Ireland, North Africa, and Sicily during World War II. He was in the Normandy invasion during which he was in the artillery. Following WWII he served in Japan, Germany, and in the cold war defense of the District of Columbia and later as military advisor to the Royal Laotian government. After retirement, Ralph worked for a Mortgage-Investment company in El Paso. Later he and his wife Naomi started a Real Estate brokerage which they operated as a team for many years mainly in the Chaparral Park area of West El Paso. Together they witnessed much growth in the west side of El Paso. The family wishes to thank the staff at White Acres for their help and tender care during Ralph’s illness and Choice Hospice who were there when he needed them most. A Memorial Service for Ralph will be held November 29, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. in the White Acres dining hall. Rev. Ron Thompson will officiate. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West.
