Rachel Kathryn Hicks

Rachel Kathryn (Kat) Hicks, age 93, entered into eternal rest on Friday, January 21, 2022. She was born in Omaha, Texas, to parents Joe Tigert and Thelma Carruth Tigert. She grew up on the farm with four sisters and two brothers. Her sister, Nell Bisang, introduced Kat to the love of her life, Charlie Hicks, in 1947 at an unlikely place: a pipeline booster station in Salt Flat, Texas. Kat and Charlie were married in 1948 and had two sons, Rob and Larry. They moved to town in El Paso in 1955 and raised their family there. Kat and Charlie were devoted parents who loved their extended family well. They took many trips to east Texas and California to visit family and friends. Kat and Charlie were married for 65 years until Charlie passed away in 2014. She enjoyed her independence and her visits with her sons, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and Nana and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her beloved sons; Robert C. Hicks Jr. (Kelly), and Larry W. Hicks (Georgia), her seven grandchildren, and twenty-nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many extended family and friends to cherish and honor her memory. A Celebration of Life will commence at 12:30 pm on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-West, 480 N. Resler.
